Bandimere Speedway: In Memoriam 1958-2023

Image
Bandimere Speedway This historic icon of a globally-renown racetrack celebrates its 65th–and final–racing season in 2023. Bandimere Speedway's stately presence on Thunder Mountain along the Foothills will be deeply missed, even by those on and off the racing circuit. The "What" Bandimere Speedway was created in 1958. It is a drag strip racetrack along the West side of C-470, a brainchild of John Bandimere, originally named the Safety Proving Grounds of America.  It's been a fun and cutting edge testament to car racing, with events such as the High School Drags, Mopar Mile-High Nationals, and other NHRA racing events.  The "How" Bandimere Speedway immediately borders C-470 on the West at Morrison Rd.  Unfortunately, Bandimere Speedway will be making way for further development, and will close after the 2023 racing season in October.  After 65 years, there will be no more events at Bandimere Speedway. I, among many, can hardly imagine no longer hearing that ...

Murdoch's Ranch and Home Supply

Murdoch's Ranch and Home Supply If it seems strange to plug a post about a hardware store in a travel blog, allow me to take you on a journey into why Murdoch's is so much more than your average supply shop, and why I love it so much. The "What" Founded in 1994 in Bozeman, Montana, Murdoch's has spread around the nation.  The location I term as "mine" is on the west side of Santa Fe at Highlands Ranch Parkway. Explore their website and Google maps to find more. From my experience, Murdoch's carries unprecedented quantity and quality of options in many departments including:  Clothing Boots Tools Safety gear Gifts Pet and livestock feed and equipment Sporting goods ...and even assorted snacks and candies. During the months of March and April, they even have "Chick Days," where there are baby chickens and ducks for sale.  From my experience, their prices are most reasonable, and their service is second to none. If you're looking for a p...

Denver Zoo

Denver Zoo Denver Zoo is a no-brainer for my second post, for a few reasons. The Denver Zoo and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science: Hold over 100 years of history in Denver. Serve as equally highly educational and highly fun-packed experiences. Are literally next door to each other. The "What" Launched in 1896, the Denver Zoo is celebrating its 127th year. An orphaned black bear cub named Billy Bryan was gifted to the Denver Mayor, who gave it a home in city park, beginning a long history for a beloved zoo. Neighboring City park on the East and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science on the West, Denver Zoo is located West of Colorado Boulevard on the south side of 23rd Avenue.  Before this time, zoos were mainly comprised of metal cages where the animals were kept. Conceptually, Denver Zoo was one of the first zoos of its time to be designed with the animals' natural habitat in mind, which many zoos and conservatories around the world have taken to doing. This techn...

Denver Museum of Nature and Science

Denver Museum of Nature and Science   This hotspot stood out as an obvious first choice as my inaugural post for Native’s Guide to Colorado. From it’s intrinsic enjoyability, to it’s historical value for both state and humanity, to its fond and memorable connections for this Colorado Native from as far back as I can remember, one could do worse than the Denver Museum of Nature and Science for a genuine Colorado day trip.    The “What”  Opened in 1908, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science (DMNS) began as a humble-but-impressive collection prescribed by local collectors of wildlife and minerals. Located at 20 th  and Colorado Boulevard, this museum has continued to grow over the years into a treasured collection of fascinating permanent and temporary exhibits, and a true gem among Colorado’s favored exploration destinations.  This tri-level museum greets you with a magnificent, selfie-worthy T-Rex display upon entry, ushering you into the Space Odysse...
